And So it goes…

The next chapter is upon me… a quiet house. The day that I often thought of not so long ago, when every day felt so chaotic. Running here for this practice, there for that game, up early to get them to school, and the never ending question, “What’s for dinner?” … and like that, a blink, a wink, and dinner becomes a bowl of granola, a bag of popcorn, or perhaps a quick protein shake. No one depending on me anymore, at least for the in’s and out’s of the day. I remember thinking how nice it would be to just have a day to not have to run, and here I am. How quickly it came.

The next chapter. The now pitter-patter of little feet running through this kitchen, is that of my precious grand-children. The phone call “Mom, can you come help me?” is that of the next generation trying to juggle life and kids - music to my ear’s when I’m needed. Nothing prepares you for this place. When the need for dependence evaporates, and you find yourself in the ‘what’s next.’…

It’s that evolution of life’s journey, when everything flips - the house becomes quiet, the daily hectic schedule is now no more, and sitting in silence, sometimes becomes surreal. How quickly it all went. We spend so much time planning for our ‘tomorrow’s’ that we forget how quickly today disappears. Job 7:6 says, “My day’s are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, And are spent without hope.” A weavers shuttle, moves back and forth, creating a tapestry, Our life is being woven together one day at a time, and before we realize it the tapestry is nearly complete.

As the sun rises and sets each day, and time ticks away, I am learning to embrace each and every single moment. I welcome the peace, and long to sit in the Presence of Jesus as often, and as long, as I can. And the moments where a ride around the yard on the John Deere, with my grandson in tow on the lap, watching the sun settle into the horizon, is time well spent, for in another blink, he will have his own chaos.

So This day, I Thank you Lord, Psalm 118:24, This is the day the Lord has Made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. For every Breath you give me, Every sunset that I get to witness, and every opportunity that I get to praise you, I will, until my very last breath. Precious Jesus, I love you with All that I am.

In your treasured and most holy name,

Amen
